This lonely little sea captain usually sits in
with one of my succulents. He looks over the
room or out the window. He was banished and
lay on the floor for several months when the
succulent took a turn for the worst mid summer.
I’m about to put him back in service,
hoping to not have to banish him again.
See, it wasn’t the sea captain that was doing
poorly. It was the plant. It went full dead-ish
on me. I had it for 11 years. It was a “rescue”
succulent. My oldest son and his wife gave it to
me. They found it in the trash soon after they were
married. The plant, not the sea captain. Anyway,
it was the first succulent plant “Jade” I ever had.
And it thrived. So, it made me sad when it tried to
die out. I had re-potted it three times, and it seemed to
be fine, Then we went away in the fall and it’s leaves
started to wither. Well, long story short, I had to cut
back a lot of the plant. But it’s back. And I think my
sea captain will be happy to be on duty again.
