Coffee Fix

IMG_7292

When I was growing up most people had a coffee pot that

percolated. In our home it percolated many times during

the day. My mom drank black coffee in a small white coffee

cup all throughout the day. When I was in college I babysat for a

lady who drank iced coffee. I drank a form of sweet instant coffee

about 6 times two summers before I was married. Mostly I

drank tea and water.

Mr. Fix-it was a coffee drinker and took a

large thermos to work with him the first year we were married.

After he secured his career job he drank coffee at the job out

of the office pot. He eventually became the coffee maker at work. During

his working years I drank sweet instant coffee and a bit of whatever

coffee was left in the pot. When he started working from home

our coffee life changed. Drastically!

We went from on/off pots. Set ahead time pots. Grind and brew pots. All

these different pots started Mr Fix-it, who was a border line coffee

connoisseur, on a quest. For a while he used a coffee press. The grounds

were more than difficult to dispose of. The amount of time he studied coffee was

intense. We only buy whole beans and grind it fresh daily. Yes, I have heard the

phrase, coffee snobs, we might be?? For now we have sorta settled on the pour

over method. And Mr. Fix-it is the coffee maker and chief. Except, when I am up first.

This morning I waited for the water to get to the perfect temp, so I could

make my own self a cup of coffee. It is a bit of a process. I don’t mind it.

Even so, while I was pouring the water over my cup I thought-

I wonder how many chemicals are in that sweet instant

coffee? Maybe I should go back to it.

Enjoyed your coffee journey! I grew up with Swedish relatives who drank black coffee so strong a spoon could stand up. I didn’t acquire a taste for drinking what looked to me to be tar. However, when I was married in my 30’s to a Dutchman, I was expected to drink coffee. I was told I would be culturally impolite to refuse coffee when offered. So I found myself mining whip cream or scraping off icing in/on the sweet treats that would be served in order to politely sip a cup of coffee! One of my part time jobs I became a barista, and found many extravagant fancy coffee drinks that I quite enjoyed. However when I no longer worked in a coffee shop, I found it to be too expensive to indulge in those fancy coffee drinks! I find myself occasionally fixing an entire pot of coffee, and will reheat a cup throughout the day or use the leftovers in a smoothie. Shall we follow up on that raincheck to meet and have a coffee!?

I like plants and tennis and book club and classical music and small bowls of ice cream.

I love Jesus, Mr. Fix-it, family and life!

I don’t like driving in the rain or sleeping in.
