When I was in school art teachers came to our classrooms a couple of times a month.
I was no artist. The art ladies brought different supplies with them into our classrooms
on a cart. I ended for sure any chance to be known for my art on one particular day.
The sun was streaming in the windows and the art lady after passing around sketch paper
suggested we draw just what we saw in front of us. “Draw only what you see.” she said.
She had arranged several objects, a pitcher, a bowl and a piece of fruit. I swear all I could
see was dust! Like the dust in the picture above.
It might not have been my finest 8th grade moment- but I dotted up that sketch paper with pencil.
“What is that?”
“Dust, that is what I see.”
The art lady took my sketch paper and tore it up.
Every time I see dust like that in the sunlight
I am reminded of that day when I drew what I saw.
