Some of my fathers favorite words were, Settle down–
calm down – dial it down. His attempts to get us to calm.
Today on my way back from playing tennis, I thought to myself- dial it down.
Too much reading, walking, doing, listening, talking ,shopping, scrolling…
All of it. Usually much of my energies can be taken up with sport and outside
activities. Snow has hindered that. One of my grown girls had two bikes in her
living room today. A type of trike for her one year old and a balance
bike for her four year old. They both were riding them. It’s too cold outside, she said.
True, True. When I was a kid we played oodles of eraser tag on cold snowy days.
Energy outlet. When I came home from school if the parents were gone
we played hot box from the living room to the kitchen. In college I ran the 12 flights
of stairs in the dorm over and over. Energy outlet. I was on the phone with an out of state
grown girl just the other day I said, are you walking?
Sort of, I’m pacing back and forth in the back yard. Energy Outlet.
I received an e-mail earlier, from a faithful “weather reporter“. He was e-mailing
the conditions of the outside tennis courts and parking lot. “The courts might be melted by Friday
afternoon but probably not.” Oh well, time to dial it down…
