Dirt to Table

I was chatting with one of my grown girls and made a comment

how sometimes I see pictures of things we did when our kids

were young. Like gardening three very large football field sized

gardens and how the photos made it look so picture perfect.

Do you remember it like that ? I asked her.

Of course she didn’t. She remembered what it was like.

The first year we lived here we had no air conditioning and when

we would come in from sweating in the fields we laid on the hard wood floors

in hopes to cool off. We canned, pickled, jellied, every thing, in the hot little

kitchen. We put up habenero sauce! The warning don’t put your hands any where

near your face, eyes, lips, nose, could not be said enough.

I dipped pumpkins in bleach water for better shelf life. NOT, they rotted

onto the shelf.  Absolutely awful, the smell, and the mess. We had so much zucchini

I mastered chocolate chip zucchini bread, zucchini apricot jam, zucchini soup,casserole…
