Bike riding is in full swing now.
So are dogs.
Having a dog come at you on
a bicycle is just insane.
On my route I encountered a
dog several times. His head is
very large. He ,or she, could pass
as a small deer. So far it seems as
if this dog has an invisible fence in
his or her yard. Even so, each time I
pass this house I ride in the center
of the road and as fast as I can.
Often, I switch sides of the road and go against
traffic. But it’s not just the big dogs, it’s
the little ones too. I want to yell out to the
dog walkers- “hold tight to that leash!”
I have had dogs chase me alongside the road
for several blocks. “Go home. Go home” I holler
while peddling maniacally, hoping they don’t come into
the road with me. I met a man at least 25 years ago
at the local park. I was running and he was biking.
He stopped and chatted it up with me. He had a broken
clavicle because a little dog had knocked him off his bike.
This is why I ride in the park, he said. Since, I too,
do not want a broken clavicle or anything else broke I have
navigated, along with hubby, roads where dogs are rare. Or sit
on porches and don’t chase. My heart rate jumps significantly
on the dog stretches.
On another note – check out that loaf of bread
And, I have enough blackberries now to make a few
pints of jam!
