When I see signs like this I go into high alert.
Usually I am with Mr. Fix-it, and I’ll say, Do you
think there are bears? He invariably says, No, there
is nothing to worry about.
A few years ago we were camping and we took a
day hike. My first inkling that something was wrong-
my feet were stinging, on fire stinging. I forged on.
By the time we got back to the car. I thought WOW,
I am out of my head with my feet burning like this!
We got back to our campsite and Mr. Fix-it was feeling
the burning too. We both took off our shoes and saw,
at the same time, the tiniest of red, moving, specks all
over our feet, in between our toes. I threw our shoes and
socks out of the camper- wondering what we had
gotten ourselves into. The next morning the lady across
from us hollered over at us- You got yourselves into some
chiggers didn’t you- I saw you tossed your shoes out.
You should have sprayed yourselves before you
went into the woods. Yes, we should have. There were
no warning signs with pictures -like the bear one!
