Early this morning I shaped the sourdough
dough into a loaf pan and let it rise. One
of the ladies from my book club shared
her starter with me. I have made 2 loaves of
soft white sandwich bread and a batch of
chocolate chip discard cookies.
My next
endeavor will be pancakes or muffins.
I had a starter over twenty years ago.
I don’t ever remember the word discard.
I know for sure I did not read recipes that
jumped all over the phone screen and had
videos attached. I long for paper… recipes
scribbled on 3by5’s shared amongst mothers
of many. I told myself this morning to write
the recipe out. So I won’t have to find the
website again. Once on a three hour flight I
had a lovely conversation with a lady who
promised to mail me her sourdough starter .
She said it had been in the family for over 30
years. I was pretty impressed and waited for
it to arrive in the mail. It never did. It was such
a disappointment. I had potato sourdough
starter with a recipe that made three loaves
at a time. For years I tended to a starter using
freshly ground wheat flour. Very challenging.
Jesus said- I am the Bread of life; whoever
comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever
believes in Me shall never thirst. John 6:35
I agree I miss handwritten recipes.
The fact that you actually have to click on jump to recipe on the page just shows you how long the blog post is without even getting to the recipe.
