“Tomorrow we will” – is something I said many a time.
Usually to motivate the children.
For instance, when my children
were quite young, we did two paper routes.
The first one,was the local journal.
We folded, and delivered, the papers.
The second one, a tribune, we only folded the papers.
We folded 2000 tribunes every Tuesday morning.
I started in on Monday night- “Tomorrow we will
all fold together. I will read from “such and such” book,
then I will make pancakes!”
My little spiel always included pancakes.
I always hoped this would motivate.
We got a whole 20 bucks a week for doing this.
Which seems ridiculous now. But at the time
20 bucks bought almost a weeks worth of groceries.
It definitely helped. Each week the news man drove up to the
house in a van He opened our screen door and
stacked the bundles. They reached to the top of the door.
We would have to use a chair to get the first few bundles down.
He brought them with trash bags, so we folded and filled trash bags,
lugging each bag to the side of the house.
All of us were covered with newsprint.
One day the man tipped me $5.00, for being so speedy.
I quit the next week. It was like that five dollars,
made me realize how nuts this was. Not a one of us
missed it. Any of it. I definitely did not miss the
energy it took to keep us all focused.
