In the short post I read about how to tell if a honeydew
melon is ripe, it speaks of the vine browning up. The one pictured
was the second one I picked. Actually, I didn’t have to pick it.
It sort of fell off the vine when I tapped it to look at the underside.
One of my grown girls told me they were ready to pick. I avoided looking,
not sure I was ready to deal with them. But she was right. They were ready.
Another one of my grown girls sent me honeydew melon agua fresca recipe.
The first melon was delicious. Although not so pretty. I ate large chunks of
it while standing at the butcher block. Mr. Fix-it suggested I put it in the fridge
and let it get cold. The second one is the one pictured. It is a nice looking melon.
Inside and out. It felt ripe when I carried it into the house. I was quite happy with
it. I feel my garden did it’s job and produced it’s fruit. So now I need to do my job,
and preserve it’s fruit. Everything comes ripe at the same time. It is a bit to keep up
with. My sweet potatoes are buried under all the squash vines- but I am going to un-bury
them soon. Because I think the cucumbers and honeydews are at their end.
