Something I read last year spurred me to
the idea that I wanted to enter in to a 1000
outside hours challenge. I ended up with 964
hours, give or take a few minutes or hours.
It was grueling. Mr. Fix-it easily spends a
1000 hours outside a year. I would venture
to guess, closer to 2000. Today when it got to 7
degrees he bundled up and went for a walk.
He is outside in extreme hot and cold. Pretty
much I spend time outside everyday. I wander
around the back woods or work in a garden or do
whatever. Last year I drank my morning coffee
outside in the frigid weather. I ate lunch outside.
I high kneed it through snow or rain. Talked on the
phone out behind the shed. Mr Fix-it and I are avid
campers and bike riders and hikers. Even so, getting
close to 1000 hours was crazy difficult. I would not
recommend outside hour challenge to anyone.
That said, today when it was 8 degrees I went out for a
walk in the backwoods and enjoyed all the cold snow and
quiet branches. Since it snowed a bit again in the night the
tracks from my other treks were filled in and I was forced
to high step it to keep the snow from getting in my shoes.
